Heiligenstein 1ÖTW

Terraced sloesite directed to the south and southwest with a special geologial composition which was, because of the earth´s development, perfectly preserved right here. The primary rock, which extends up to the surface, consists of a reddish-brown sandstone, rich in feldspar and coarse conglomerates; there is a bit of silt as well. The build-up of sediment approximately 250 - 280 million years ago took place in lakes, ponds and periodically active rivers amidst a dersert climate. Throughout the mass of rock are fossilized plants and gravelly stones of volcanic quartz porphyry. There is some preserved löss only in a few spots of the shallow valleys.
